We have the incredible ability to heal, change, and thrive!
As short of a time as 25 years ago, scientists believed the brain could not change after our teenager years, but now we know it can! From birth until death, our brain daily changes and adapts to our experiences and thoughts. This is known as neuroplasticity.
Stress is a part of everyday life and our bodies are designed to respond to and navigate it. However, when we experience chronic stress, pain, and trauma, the brain-body connection can become stuck in survival mode.
Over time we experience the effects of living in such survival states such as :
- Negative thoughts or low mood
- Irritability
- Chronic fatigue
- Brain fog
- Unrelenting pain
- Digestive and immune issues
- Food sensitivities
- Apathy or a felt sense of being disconnected from ourselves and the world around us

Our brain works on a “use it or lose it” principle, which means that neurons and neural pathways that are used the most determine our experience of life. Rewiring happens when we stop old neural pathways and allow new neural pathways to be created or used.
Emotions strengthen neural connections, making it easier for the brain to remember. We can learn to access the power of feeling positive emotions… to feel better and to rewire the brain’s structure, how it functions, and how it responds to stress around us.

Your gut and your brain are in constant communication. Inside your gut is a group of tiny organisms called the microbiome. They are responsible for keeping your brain and body healthy.
If there’s an imbalance in our microbiome, called dysbiosis, it can cause issues like IBS, IBD, constipation, diarrhea, bloating, and food sensitivities. This can also impact our nervous system and brain functioning, causing things like anxiety, depression, and a myriad of even more complex things like chronic fatigue, seizures, attention and focus problems, etc.
We can use food, natural methods, and stress reduction techniques to improve our gut health which will also help our nervous system and mental health. (Remember my emails that talked about how the nervous system, the digestive system, and the immune system are all buddies?!)
